86 by Emelie

My name is Emelie Larsson and I am the designer behind the brand 86 by Emelie. I upcycle preloved textiles into new pieces like wrap pants, jackets, tops, wrap jumpsuits and bags
from my studio in Gothenburg.

It started...

In 2024, I felt like I needed to awaken my creativity again. I had just finished my design studies and had my first child. I went browsing in second hand stores, which is something I do (a lot!).

And in the huge amounts and variety of fabric, is where I found my inspiration.

I started doing something I truly enjoy - making new things out of old stuff. This matched perfectly with my passion for sustainble materials in design.

We don’t need to produce more when we already have everything we need.

Sustainability is more

than upcycling materials. The life cycle of every item we produce is also an important aspect. I've always been drawn to working with functions and often include them in my designs. Wrap functions, ties and adjustable straps. Clothes that can be adjusted to the changing body can be worn longer, passed on and fit many body types.

I had a vision

of building a small business. Even though I knew nothing about it. I started to remake clothes but quickly found that making them from interior textiles was my thing. And I wanted to make it vibrant. Fun. The spare room in our apartment became my studio and the 15 year old sewing machine from my grandparents my main tool.

Since then

I sold at design markets, joined pop ups and an art collective studio. I started selling some of my products in a store - Småskaligt. Was on the front page of my local news paper, had my clothes on runways and at the Slow Fashion Gala.

The Dream Bag

This is one of my main products, my most sold item. Most of them are made from upcycled pillowcases but as the design evolves so does the form and material. As in many of my designs. I continue to learn and try new things and hope to never finish.
